Contrary to popular belief, you don't need a degree in engineering to work on pilates equipment.⁠ Yes, I’m an engineer, but my engineering degree didn’t make me good at fixing Pilates equipment.  Plain ol’ curiosity and confidence with tools, combined with some Pilates knowledge, got me here.

In fact, I’ve already helped several women who are Pilates instructors start their own side hustle doing maintenance.

I am half way through my annual trip to the UK 🇬🇧 and have been having too good a time to be thinking about posting on Instagram. Lol! But thought I’d check in. 
Besides catching up with family, I have also spent time catching up with all my old school friends. 
It’s been 20 years since we graduated high school ‍and I don’t think we’ve all been in the same room together since, so this was one pretty epic catch up! 
Especially since we are spread out over 3 different continents! 
I’ve also been to the Marlow Rowing Club ️‍️every morning for a workout with my dad. 
Yep, you heard me right. If you know my family, you’ll know that’s quite extraordinary. Lol!
Tomorrow we are off to the beach. Our old childhood stomping ground. So excited. ️

This is for anyone who’s feeling “less than” in your chosen profession. Next time you say, “I’m just a Pilates instructor” (or “just” anything”), p a u s e. And take a moment. You are “just” nothing.

If you’re a Pilates teacher, YOU are an educator. You are teaching your students about their body.
️
If you’ve devoted your time to being a teacher, you have a career, not a “pass-time”, and it certainly isn’t a “hobby”. Even though you may love it.
️
YOU expertly guide people through one of the most important experiences they can have — experience with themselves.
️
YOU spend hundreds of hours educating yourself on biomechanics, functional movement, and the nervous system, to form an understanding about the intricate web of function of the human body.
️
YOU spend hundreds of hours in the lab working with bodies that are all unique.
️
YOU work through your students perceptions of themselves and skillfully try to balance what you think is best for their body with their personal desires and needs.
️
Think hard about why you might find yourself not being proud of the career that you have chosen when you’re out in the world talking about what YOU do.
️
YOUR contribution is significant and critical especially in this world at this time  . Please, don’t ever forget that what YOU do helps people heal.

YOU CAN have a challenging and rewarding career as a movement educator, when YOU decide that your contribution matters.

I am inspired to move by so many people. The retired couple that works out together reminds me that age does not dictate level of challenge when the husband crushes the Hanging Pull Ups. My clients that are new moms show me how life changes can enhance your workout. You can connect with your family, be a good example and make new friends while still taking time to take care of yourself. My mom instilled movement inspiration from a young age when she brought my brother and I with her to the gym. Or she did a workout video at home and always encouraged us to move with her. Más de una vez me he encontrado diciendo la frase “uf no eso jamás lo voy a lograr” o “no me pidas eso que es imposible” “no puedo”
Si tan solo nos diéramos cuenta que ya el echo de “decir” que nunca lo lograremos nos limita el doble! Las palabras están cargadas de sentimientos y estos afectan a nuestro cuerpo directamente, si constantemente me estoy llenando de frases “negativas” o “desalentadoras” claro que no me sentiré capaz de lograrlo, tendré siempre un freno puesto que hará más difícil aún mi proceso. Esto no solo afecta en pilates, también en el día a día. Créanme sé que no es fácil, pero los invito a creernos el cuento a confiar en nuestras capacidades de aprender y mejorar, cambiemos el “no puedo” por un “aún no lo logro” o un “eso estoy aprendiendo” verán como cambia nuestra postura y disposición a mejorar!

1. The band helps you to support your leg so if you keep the circling leg straight, you’ll get a hamstring stretch as the leg comes closer to the body;
2. Circling the top of your leg bone in the hip socket “stirs” the synovial fluid that lubricates the joint and allows it to move more freely;
3. Trains you to use your abs to control the movement of your pelvis - no rocking side to side or back & forwards!
