Big, heartfelt thank you to those of you who came on this amazing trip, put your trust in me, and made it so much fun to guide. I love these hiking trips in part because I see people overcome their fears and realize what they’re capable of, which is beautiful to see. I remember a few years ago I couldn’t even fathom backpacking, and didn’t understand how it could be fun. Now I crave that time in nature and love the sense of accomplishment. It’s amazing to get to share that #BMTMAdventures. Hit the link in my bio to see what adventures we have coming up. #BMTMAdventures

And of those days when you cross your fingers because the Rangers told us the wind would be strong in the afternoon, so we woke up at the crack of dawn to make her way up the mountain. This was the reward. Just the latest breeze, the perfect clarity, and green for days. Can’t tell you how rewarding it is to leave these hikes with such amazing groups of women #BMTMadventures.

This group was so supportive, easy-going, and awesome to hike with, just like every group that I’ve taken on #BMTMadventures which have taken us to Peru, Patagonia, Namibia, Botswana, the Alaskan backcountry, and now Iceland. Swipe to see some of the girls absolutely killing it on the trail. Do you belong in this tribe? I have one more spot for Galapagos and a few more for Patagonia. Link in my bio!

On the last night of this trip we all talked about what our favorite moment was, and mine was when one of the girls from the trip told me that she felt empowered to backpack independently after this experience - that it had built up her confidence. This waterfall was at the very end of our 6-day trek, and is only fitting that it’s Iceland’s biggest and most powerful waterfalls. #BMTMAdventures join us in Patagonia in March. Link in bio! Kudos to everyone who has made it to day 5 of the #BeMyPhotoMuse - today we're looking right into the camera and being fierce. This is, at least for me, the toughest because it's a fine line between looking a little angry or bored, and perfectly sultry and confident. Keep trying this one and pick out a favorite of the bunch. Can't wait to see what you guys share! #Posechallengeday5

I find posing in a photo can be awkward when I'm not sure to do with my hands. My best way of solving this is to grab a prop, like a flower, umbrella, or in this case, a floppy sun hat. #BeMyPhotoMuse #Posechallengeday4 I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Smiling is contagious
You can catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today
I started smiling too.

I turned around the corner
And someone saw my grin
And when he smiled I realised
That I'd passed it on to him

I thought about that smile
Then I realized its worth
A single smile just like mine
Could travel ‘round the earth

So if you feel a smile begin
Don't leave it undetected
Let’s start an epidemic quick
And get the world infected.

I saw that poem pasted on the bathroom wall of the hut I stayed in on day 2 of my 6-day hike in Iceland. It speaks so well to the #bemyphotomuse #posechallengeday3 - creative smiling. It’s all in today’s pose challenge email! Link in my bio if you still want to join the party. It’s fun. It’s free!

For the #BeMyPhotoMuse #Posechallengeday2 it's all about movement. It's much easier to make a photo show your personality and feel lighthearted and fun when we move in it. Twirl, dance, throw your arms out like you’re flying or kick your legs in water. When we move, we say goodbye to stiffness and start to have fun with it!

Being a tiny human in a gorgeous natural setting is one of my favorite ways to show scale, add a pop of color, and to show the grandeur of a place. For today's #BeMyPhotoMuse #Posechallengeday1 we're being tiny humans in our photos, because a human interest makes a photo that much more intriguing. We can see ourselves there, even when it's not us in the photo. We can get a sense of what it would feel like to be there, and when it comes to travel photography, this is one of my favorite ways to express it. You can still join the free pose challenge at the link in my bio! See you tomorrow.

How can you get comfortable in front of the camera? By practicing. I used to find it so strange to face the camera and preferred to just do photos facing away from the camera, or not be in the picture at all. Then I realized all of my photos were just of the back of my head! Now I work in variety and it's clear my travel photos are of me, not some brunette that could be anyone. Since I know it can feel strange, I put together a 5-day, totally free, pose challenge with tips on how to take your own photo, how to get comfortable in front of the camera, and work your way up to the more, shall we say, 'advanced' poses looking at the camera. It's tons of fun and it doesn't cost anything. So far over 1200 women have completed it and starting on Thursday, we'll do it all live together! Sign up at the link in my bio to be part of it! #BeMyPhotoMuse

Tahoe has some of the clearest, purest water in the world. It's surrounded by fragrant pine trees and singing birds. It's obvious as you drive along it - which is about 22-miles long - that there's a special energy to the area. Paddling on the water for the first time felt meditative. While I can see this as the perfect friend getaway, I love it all to myself too. I can tell I'll keep coming back again and again to this magical place. Have you been to Lake Tahoe? It's incredible. I tried to capture the essence of it in this video - hope you enjoy! This adventure was made possible by @alamorentacar. You can repeat these adventures beginning at Reno-Tahoe International Airport to pick up your rental car. #ad #alamodrivehappy

Magical Lake Tahoe. Being in the area brings me closer to my soul. This is one of my favorite girlfriend getaways in the U.S. I also love Vegas, Moab, and Santa Barbara to name a few more. The first time I visited Lake Tahoe was with four friends, three of whom were from out of the country, on our way to Burning Man. We camped for the night and the next day explored the gorgeous lakeshore on foot. It felt pretty special to see such a beautiful place, that I'd heard so much about, for the first time with them. Sitting on the state line between California and Nevada, it was the perfect midpoint for our adventure, and whetted my appetite for more lake time in the future. I finally got to return last week with @Alamorentacar to explore the parts I hadn't seen yet. Paddleboarding through the rocks on that crystal-clear water gave me a whole new perspective. #alamodrivehappy #ad

This is probably my 6th or 7th time back to Idaho which is low-key one of the most beautiful states in the US, for real. If you've seen my feed this week I'm sure you've seen what I mean! You guys I can’t wait to just let loose and relax here in a few months. I’m so excited for this trip because it’s going to be one big party celebrating nature and trying new things and interacting in beautiful and ethical ways with wild animals and that just makes my heart sing. The best experiences I’ve had abroad have always had this combo. Plus I’ve already traveled with many of the women who are coming on other BMTM adventures and I know this group is perfect already. There are just a few spots left if you want to bring your awesome energy into it. Are you coming to Galapagos with us? Link in bio.
Join a group of 14 women of all ages and backgrounds and see what it's like to have adventures in a noncompetitive environment where you'll meet some of your new best friends (It's true, lots of trip participants hang out after my trips!) Learn how to photograph everything like a pro. I'm always there to help.
See animals who are unafraid of humans and interact with them in sustainable, ethical, and amazing ways.

The crown jewel of Patagonia with some incredible women, and we're doing it again in March 2020! Torres del Paine in Chile is, seriously, the most beautiful place I've ever been. If you'd like to backpack there with me, I'm doing it one more time this March. I've hiked this 9-day circuit twice now, carrying all of my own gear and cooking my own food and the way I did it on the last BMTM Adventures tour, with tents already set up for us, and hot dinners and breakfasts each day, and a luxury hotel and the end - and I definitely prefer it with comforts and less weight! I also love hiking it with women, the sisterly bond is incredible and it makes the journey all that much more rewarding. Hit the link in my bio to reserve one of the spots. Thanks @runningglass for this wonderful photo after we watched the stars over the towers!

Time spent in nature has been shown to improve mental health - not that anyone who spends lots of time outdoors would find this surprising! Novelty, visual beauty, exercise, and nature immersion all trigger dopamine release - the feel good chemicals in our brains. While you're out there, I highly recommend Shinrin-Yoku, a practice of becoming the nature you're witnessing. What does it feel like to be water, or a tree, or a flower? What does it feel like to bloom? Have you guys tried it? I find it takes away my ego and calms me. It's easy in a place as beautiful as Stanley, ID. #visitIdaho #ad (: @ilovethewayyouheal)

Stars over Stanley. The part of Idaho Stanley is in is the only designated dark sky reserve in the US (earned for fantastic star gazing due to low light pollution) and is also one of my favorite places in the US. I feel like I'm in the Alps or Banff minus the crowds. It's the kind of place you almost want to keep secret but you know it's sad that anyone would miss out on seeing it. That goes for all of Idaho. What an underrated gem. #VisitIdaho @visitidaho #sponsored

How many of you are dying to see the world but get lost in the what ifs? What if it's expensive, what if I get lonely, what if it's not safe? The list goes on! Ciao, Bella.

I wanted to post this a couple weeks ago but I was worried that people would roll their eyes and say, oh no not another butt shot, because for some reason lately I’ve heard a lot of women complain about Instagram accounts that have too many shots of women’s butts. I get that and I don’t like the fake butts or the ones that promote body dysmorphia, but then I thought, is it really the same here? Is it wrong to want to share a photo where you feel good, and want to celebrate your body? What is it about these posts that make us uncomfortable? Is it the trigger that causes us to automatically compare? Why should an image of another beautiful woman bother me? The female form is gorgeous and I think we spend too much of our lives ashamed of what we have. Society spends too much time shaming us for our natural curves, hair, and faces without makeup. I could go on, but instead I commit to honoring and appreciating every woman who has the guts to post photos of herself. Every female figure beautiful. Every single one.

They call it Spider Rock, and, while I’m not entirely sure why, I do know that this hidden gem in Arizona is super cool and it’s possible to have it all to yourself. It’s one of several lookout points in Canyon de Chelly (which it took me embarrassingly long to realize is pronounced “canyon de chay”). I stayed at a quiet little treehouse on the north side of Busuanga, the island with Coron town, and it was far away from the bustle and therefore perfect. Swimming in the mangroves at dusk with the dog, Buhay, as the tour guide, taking a little boat out to black island (pictured here) and enjoying the white sand, the mere handful of other people, the swimming holes in the caves, and freediving with the fish while trying to dodge the jellies (I’ve managed to get stung literally chin to toes this trip), it was the perfect getaway. Details coming soon on YouTube and the blog.

Palawan has been interesting to come back to. I first came 6 years ago to an almost empty Coron and joined a dive boat for 8 days, never seeing another soul. After Romblon this time, the touristy nature of Palawan has been a bit of a shock to the system. The friendliness seems to be gone and I miss it. I wonder if Camiguin and Bohol would have changed too? Which provinces are still untouched by major development and still have that friendliness? That’s the Philippines I know and love.

This year self love is the big thing for me, because when the voice in my head is kinder, then I can be kinder too. To myself and to the world. One of the ways that my self love improves is when I’m doing self care, and one of the most beneficial things for me is daily meditation. Sometimes I’m great and keeping it up and at other times, not at all! So I’m inviting you to join me on May 6 for 5 days of morning meditation. I’m not trying to sell anything or gain anything from this other than the energetic benefit of a group that meditates together. Ill send out a daily email with a free guided meditation that I love, and we can all keep in touch in the Facebook group about how our experience was that day. You can join at the link in my bio.

The sand bar of dreams. When I first arrived here in the early AM there were probably 100 people there. I was so disappointed! That got me thinking, why am I ever disappointed when a place is crowded? Because I feel like I should get to see it and others shouldn’t? It’s the other side of the overtourism coin. Should only a few people get to enjoy a place? It’s a tricky topic, but as with most places, timing is everything. I went back at high tide later in the day and there were far fewer people around, and those who were wanted to take photos together, were super friendly, and it was so heart warming! Plus, the sand bar was thinner from the high tide and it looked even cooler to me that way. When a place is this beautiful, sometimes you have to share it and that’s okay.

The Philippines is so easy to love. It’s never predictable, it’s always an eventful journey, the locals are some of the friendliest in the world, and just look at it! It’s so beautiful. When you’re visiting a place where boats wave at you while you’re snorkeling to make sure you’re all good, and where nearly everyone asks your name and says hello, it’s no surprise why I keep wanting to come back. It’s like Canada, Sumatra, and South Africa. I’m in a better mood in these places because everyone is just so darn nice. It’s incredible. Where else has been like that for you in the world?

At first I was disappointed when I went back through my photos and saw this. It’s a beautiful sunset but all I could see was the ‘extra’ fat I didn’t want visible in the photo. It wasn’t there a year ago, but lately my health has been taking a back seat to everything else in life. I’m sure many out there can relate. I struggle with figuring out the right diet and exercise routine when I’m working like crazy, and I can love myself and feel beautiful when I’m five pounds thinner but can I love myself however I am today? That’s why I’m not editing out that roll, and not deleting this photo. I’m posting it because self love is what I’m working on the most right now, and this is facing a fear of mine, that I’m not lovable if I’m not skinnier. Or younger-looking, or any of the other things growing up with Barbie, fashion magazines, and Ariel made me aspire to - things we can’t naturally achieve. But I can achieve self-acceptance. That’s my effort today.
